Good & Bad, Again

Hey there . Time for a quick good/bad alternate fire thing. Here goes:

GOOD - Very cool Gavin Rossdale interview on Suicidegirls. How can you not like this guy? Interesting insights regarding the philosophy of myspace top 8/20 spaces and stuff like that.

BAD - Brutal Legend can't get a lucky break. Whenever it happens, I swear I'm buying the original when it's released. And fuck you, EA, Activision, Sierra and all the other money grubbing faggots.

GOOD - Widescreen hd youtube, 720p and overall sweetness. Fullscreen that shit and be amazed!

BAD - ^^It's jerky on both my home and office rig, so I guess upgrades are in order. Sigh.

GOOD - I've got Fable2 and it actually freaking works! 7 gigs downloaded in under 30 minutes - the wonders of tekmology.

BAD - ...it's in spanish. It's in fucking spanish. Frustration, thy name is Conchita.

GOOD - I got Mortal Kombat vs the Dc Universe, it works and it's in english! You can now be Sub Zero AND kick Batman's ass imagining Christian Bale's inside the suit, simultaneously. Plus, as IGN puts it: this game defies logic by both existing and not sucking.

BAD - I need that second controller, badly.

GOOD - Burn After Reading is great fun, Brad Pitt rocks in all his short lived scenes, George Clooney's George Clueless, and Malkovich fails to disappoint again.

BAD - Malkovich does disappoint. In Shadow Of The Vampire, which I caught on tv a few nights ago. Then again, Willem Dafoe is amazing Oscar material in that cooky movie. Worth seeing. It's on youtube in its entirety, cut up in convenient 10 minute pieces, so you can skip to the nudity.

GOOD - The new Prince Of Persia game is almost here - it's being released on December the 2nd, and IGN UK already awarded it a whopping 9.4 (these guys are supposed to be punishing reviewers). Even if you leave the excellent PoP gameplay aside, this game is a fucking masterpiece, a true work of art. For all you folks saying games aren't art, you need to check out the trailers and juuuuuust Photobucket

BAD - No more Sting concert tickets available. Next time, uncle Sting, I reeeaally wanted to hear you live. Though I can't help but giggle at the thought of the snobs paying hundreds of euros and waiting in vain for "Englishman In New York" or "Fields Of Gold". One in the eye for the rich and the famous.

GOOD - Hey, it's my birfday! A tout le mond, a tous mes amis... but I'm here to stay, bitches. Love!

Fuck Theater

When you're stuck in an overheated theater and there's not much going on on stage to keep you interested, there are quite a few things you can do to make it seem like the minutes go by faster. You can pretend to be a super spy that's on the top secret mission of completely removing his shoelaces and putting them back in reverse order without being noticed; chewing gum is your friend when sticky finger modeling feels a lot more satisfying than bad acting/plays, and if you were inspired enough to bring your trusty mp3 player there's nothing like sneaking the headphone wire through your sleeve and lean your head against your arm with no one noticing, not even your all seeing girlfriend. But then you've got your typical romanian acting primadona kinda shows that will just leave you there, scarred and bleeding on the battlefield of ungodly patience, with no other option than to take it in like a raping cock that ejaculates overacted cliches. Tonight was one of those nights - I knew I wasn't supposed to be there, yet I went, what the hell, give it a shot. After all the actress played in the Passion, and the singer, although his music's not something I could take more than 15 minutes of, is a chubby likeable guy that's really into what he's doing.

Oh my fucking God. I wanted to leave after a quarter of an hour, my girl was like let's stay some more, then we both wanted to leave but it was kind of weird because I couldn't tell if the exit doors were open and, besides, all the screaming and the quirky music had me bolted to the seat, hanging on for my life. The play is a mix of jewish poems of some sort, some so self-pitying it was embarassing - overacted in such a manic depressive flurry of yelling at the top of the lungs and pathetic sobbing that it almost felt like a visit to an insane asylum. And that's why I'm very reluctant to go see plays around here. Feels like the insane invade your house and strap you to your chair for two hours till they have their cooky ways with you, then leave - and what do you do? You get up from your chair, look through your neighbour's window and see that he's clapping his hands, so evidently you do the same. Honestly, I know what it's like not to be received well as an act, oooh I've been there. So I guess it sucks when you give it your best shot and people just stand there. But my excuse was, I didn't want to be there. That's why I hate having people at our rock shows that don't listen to or appreciate rock music, just to be there, you know, showing support as friends. Thanks, but no thanks. So, I think for the first time I went to a play I hated (and boy, were those a few!) I haven't clapped. I did stand up when everyone else did, cause it's not about being noticed, but I didn't clap. And don't get me wrong, I have nothing against jews. We're all God's children. Ok, maybe I was pissed to begin with, and it had nothing to do with the play, but wasn't it supposed to take me away from that? Take me to that higher ground? Forget about it. I could see, hear and feel the audience squirming in their chairs every time the spotlights went dim, so those enthusiastic claps at the end were actually warm welcoming for the lights that should be the evil spell breakers. Now you could almost hear the hallelujah.

What I wanted to actually say was, at some point during the ordeal, I started rememorating that great scene in Nine Inch Nails' "We're In This Together" (I blogged about it here) where she smiles at him through the crowd in the train, and couldn't help but sigh - whatever, point is, it was such a warm fuzzy feeling to know that, no matter what people will tell me, I will always KNOW this is art, this is true catharsis. NOT this!!! Don't believe the hype!

Rehearsal, they say

Above is what Nine Inch Nails calls a rehearsal video. Could've fooled me if you told me it was an official music video. As much as I dislike Pitchfork media, gotta say their .tv extension kicks ass as far as video and sound quality - it's too bad you have to scroll like a muthafucker to find some decent stuff to watch, like this GZA & son bit, or the Lee Scratch Perry interview. You might want to check out their list of videos if you're into overratedselfimportantpretentioussnobbish stuff like the Arcade Fire (which apparently Pitchfork "broke" into success), Sufjan Stevens (did I spell it right?) etc etc. Or just watch the Nine Inch Nails rehearsal vids and try to ignore the rest, seems to work better for me at least. Also, I was finally stimulated enough (by the NIN videos) to fuck around with the blog's html code I know nothing about, and with a little help I managed to extend its width so it can accomodate wider stuff (bring on the HD!), so that's why there are small graphical glitches on the page, fuck them, I'll fix'em later. If ever.

And to end this post with a witty quote by my man D: we were on the subject of marriage, and he goes "Dude. The ring, nowadays, is just a horror movie." Preach, nigga, preach!

Oh and this too:

Coma & Amberskin gig

Hey there. The concert was a lot of fun, Coma kicked serious ass as expected, there were free cds, autographs, Radu as Cap'n Moshpit again, cool tee's and everything... There's just one little comment I'd like to make: if you won't get off your ass on a saturday night to see these dudes that traveled half way across the country, for less money than they deserved, or you prefered to buy that extra beer cuz the tickets be so expensive yo, then next time yo ass is bitching about how nothing ever happens in this god forsaken town, you'd better check yourself. There's a certain NoFx song title that comes to mind and ends in "Kids", but whatever... we had dj's Addo and Acqzuel in the house, my main man Mitza, Roxa was in heaven, peace to all that were present :)

Another thing I'd like to say, though, is that it's really cool to be an opening band 'cause you get to face the music both on stage and in the crowd... number of attendees aside, saturday night was great and we'd like to thank Coma again for coming and rockin' the place.

And the first batch of pics here:

Bush To Make Comeback?

Hello, it's me, your friendly Bush newsperson. No, I'm not talking about this guy:

...hopefully google searches will become more british band reasonable in the near future, especially since:

What are the chances of Bush reforming?

GR: Quite high. Wanderlust was going to be a Bush record for about two or three months. And then the guitar player, Nigel [Pulsford], who originally was the one who didn’t want to tour anymore, suddenly didn’t want to leave his family. I understand. I think he felt that he missed his daughter growing up the first few years. It would have been a great year for Bush; it would have been a really good return. No one stole anyone’s motorbike or wife, so it’s always possible.

And this question made me laugh, too:

So on this album you worked with Bob Rock, who has produced Metallica. Were you easier to work with than Metallica?

I worked longer hours, that’s for sure. And no therapy sessions. But every morning when I’d come in, Bob would be like, “How are you doing?” And I’d say, “I’m doing fine.” And he’d say, “No, really, how are you doing? Are you OK?” “Yes, I’m fine, Bob, leave me alone.” After two years of therapy with Metallica, he couldn’t help it.

Read the whole interview here. With this as a possibility, and the Cold reunion a fact, methinks a "yay" is in order.

Yay!

Ok maybe a vid is in order, too. Did I mention they'll be playing this at my wedding? :)

The 4th Branch

Here's a song by Immortal Technique that's 5 years old, still as valid as ever, and never had an official video, It still gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it, if only more music was as hard hitting as this... my small tribute to Immortal Tech.

Hope, Change...

If you've seen the Original Kings Of Comedy (if you haven't, see it NOW!), there's this great bit by Cedric where hes says white people have high hopes and expectations, and when they go to a show, they hope that nobody is in their seats - oh honey, I reaaally hope no one's in our seats! Whereas, with black people, it's the wish factor - they wish a motherfucker WOULD be in their seats! That really has nothing to do with what this post is about. I was watching CNN this morning and it was incredible to see third world country people dancing like crazy and waving the american flag instead of the usual burn+stomp. As important as this is, historically, and as decided Obama seems to be to reduce the military agressivity of their foreign policy (read bullying), I can't help but be skeptical and I'm thinking I'm not the only one. Still, as little as this affects me directly, one in the eye for all the racists and rednecks! I'm glad he won. And this happening 40 years afer Martin Luther King got shot.

What is amazing is that he actually won with the idiotic electoral system they have in the US, where people's votes ultimately don't amount to 100% of the result. In the most democratic country in the world. But hey, dems are back in office, that should at least mean less killing, right? Maybe not having european troops die idiotically in some afghan wasteland because cocaine and gas don't grow on trees in the US? Or at all, for that matter.

I'll post a cool song by Immortal Tech soon, right now I've got work to do.

Tachycardia

If anyone knows how to lift wicked voodoo black fucking magic curses, please advise. Thanks.

In other news, here's a little song I made yesterday; I can't play the piano, so I sequenced it and shifted some notes slightly so it sounds more human... (might have overdone it, though). Reminder: I have to watch that Untamed Heart movie again, if only for Marisa Tomei's incredible sensuality, and Slater's acting. The baboon heart. I wonder if I'll still love it as much after all these years.

"All the same," said the Scarecrow, "I shall ask for brains instead of a heart; for a fool would not know what to do with a heart if he had one."
